Captain Rob Atkinson believes that the spirit within the camp couldn't be better, and he feels we are now back on the right track after a dodgy start to the New Year.
Speaking to the Official Site the 25 year old spoke of his delight at the number of clean sheets we were keeping in recent games, although he does admit disappointment at the Bradford loss.
'We started okay when I came back and then had a couple of defeats, but in the last few matches we're heading in the right direction again. It's not going to happen overnight, but we have enough quality here to push forward and challenge at the business end of the season.'
Atkinson says the squad aren't looking at the table to much, because there is so much to still play for, so they are taking it one game at a time and seeing what happens each and every 90 minutes.
He is pleased at the strength of the backline though, and he really believes they are developing an understanding that will more than stand us in good stead as we move forward.
'We've had a few clean sheets but we believe defensive unity comes from the whole team and defending as a team is something we work on in training.'
The defender also adds that the difference Alexander has made to the players confidence cannot be discounted when it comes to team spirit, everyone has a fresh slate, everyone has been given a chance and more importantly Alexander believes in all the players and gives them the belief to go out and enjoy themselves, even if it's as a substitute and not a starter.
'We are all starting on the same level playing field and we all have the same job of proving we are good enough for the shirt.'
Atkinson ended the interview by talking about his pride at wearing the armband, saying he hopes to lead by example, repay the manager's faith in him by delivering performances and results - but equally the surreal nature of being loaned out by not figuring in the previous managers plans yet now returning as skipper.
