Striker David Ball has said he intends to push Jamille Matt all the way for a starting place now that he's recovered from his eye injury.
The striker sustained the injury in the game against Tranmere Rovers, and would've been boosted by an immediate return to first team action in the loss to Exeter following a full recovery.
Speaking to the Official Site Ball was full or praise for how Matt had stepped up to the plate in his absence and he was hailed for the performances he had put in, and for the three goals he's scored in that time, but despite that the 23 year old wants to get his own season back on track and if that's at Jamille's expense then so be it.
Fighting talk - I like it!
'I had a set back and Jamille has taken his chance, I've been working hard in training and I have come on to try and make an impact, keep him on his toes and keep him going. I have been encouraging Jamille just as much as anyone else, it's a team game and I shall keep pushing him.'
Following the Exeter game, goal scorer Matty Blair also talked about being pleased at taking his chance and wanting to figure more often for the first team.
He said that there were plenty of positives for the club to take despite the loss, and it hasn't been a bad month really with four wins and only one defeat.
The 24 year old almost secured us the points with his opening strike, his second of the season so far, but he admitted it was bittersweet for him as he couldn't really celebrate the goal because we didn't take anything from the match.
'It's unfortunate but I was happy that I played 45 minutes. Again, I'm not happy Junior Brown got injured, but it gave me a chance and I managed to score, but it's an unfortunate end to what was a very good month.'
Blair goes on to say that he knows he just has to keep working hard, keep himself in the gaffer's plans if coming off the bench and just do all he can to impress when those chances come along and in time hopefully it'll be enough for him to start far more games before the season draws to a close.
There is afterall, plenty of time left.
