'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Goodall Pleased With First Start

Defender Alan Goodall has said he was absolutely delighted to start his first game of 2013-14 in the match against Accrington Stanley.

The 32 year old played in the unexpected position of middle of the park and helped add extra steel to the back four in the 442 line up we set out with, and he was obviously delighted to play his part in our three one victory, especially as it brought to an end a run of three consecutive defeats for the club.

The win also moved us back into the Play Off Spots.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game Goodall explained.

'It's been a long time overdue, but I'm happy to be back involved and it was good to get a win. I think as long as you do everything right, you keep training properly and hopefully the gaffer will pick you and change his mind. You just have to keep working hard to try and get a place.'

Goodall says it's been made even more difficult by the newboys that came in during the summer, because they have adapted well and provided good competition so it's a battle for everyone to be involved regularly and he just hopes that obviously he has done enough during his showing to impress Graham Alexander enough to keep him involved for our next game.

Goodall did get a run out in midfield in a reserve game not so long ago and admitted he enjoyed it, so to get the chance there in the first team was something he relished and obviously having seen him in reserve action, the gaffer had been training him for that role recently, so his effort has been clearly rewarded.

He also revealed he was pencilled in to start the game against Wycombe Wanderers before it was postponed, so he thanked the gaffer for still giving him a shot and sticking with his initial selection.

Goodall still has something, well plenty, to offer the club and we know he'll deliver when called upon.
The Cod Father
Interesting to see his new defensive midfield role. Adds to his chances of being involved with others ahead of him in his favoured position.
Cod Warrior
Certainly does, another string to his bow if you will and if it gives him involvement he'll take it.
