Hughes Injury Update

Hughes Injury Update

Fleetwood Town have tonight given an update on the injury that 28 year old Jeff Hughes sustained in our last game against Hartlepool United.

Fleetwood obviously won the game two nil thanks to goals from Jon Parkin, and Hughes' replacement after only eight minutes of the game gone, Alex Marrow, but unfortunately the injury is as bad as first feared, as our Head Physiotherapist Luke Bussey confirmed that the player has suffered a fracture to his left fibula.

Speaking to the Official Site he explained.

'Jeff suffered a bad tackle on Saturday, and he had to leave the stadium after the game on crutches and a medical boot. Jeff has since had an x-ray which has shown that he has a fracture in the left fibula.'

For the non medically minded, it's the bone on the outside of your lower leg which runs from the ankle to the knee.

His statement goes on to say that Jeff is obviously very disappointed as he is now set for a number of weeks on the sidelines whilst it heals, but he's realistic as this is football and it happens. The club will now take the appropriate measures to help him in his rehabilitation and get him back as soon as possible.

They haven't given a timescale for a potential return but I'd imagine we have to be looking at around six weeks really, when we factor in returning slowly to training and contact training especially. Not sure on this type of injury to be honest, but at least it doesn't sound like he needs surgery to correct the fracture and hopefully it will heal naturally.

When you hear of a fracture, especially of such a bone, you worry but at least it wasn't a break as that would've been season over.
