'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Skelmersdale 0-4 Fleetwood

Manager Graham Alexander has said he was delighted with the run out we got at Skelmersdale and he thinks it was a 'valuable workout' ahead of the coming Caley Thistle game.

Fleetwood won comprehensively four nil on the day at their Selby Place following a brace from Jamille Matt, and solo goals from Jamie Allen and youngster Tyler Forbes.

It was also a nice return for Matty Hughes who was given the armband on the day as he returned to the club we signed him from for the first time.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer explained.

'I thought the lads got some good minutes under their belt, they worked hard, scored a couple of good goals and we managed to introduce a couple of the younger lads in the second half to get a bit of experience playing with first team players. It was a valuable workout for us. Skelmersdale worked very hard to make it hard for us, but it was a good performance and it's the next step towards Sunday, which will be a step up again.'

Alexander goes on to say that he had spoken with the players ahead of the game to explain exactly what he wanted them to get from the game, and obviously with it being a special day for Hughes, he wanted them to put on a good show and having him wear the armband he thought was fitting.

'Talking to people here before the game, he's still a popular lad especially with the manager who really likes him. We thought it would be good for him to come back and lead the team out.'

Fleetwood:

S Davies, Hogan, Cresswell, Jordan (T Davies 45), Murdoch, Schumacher (Forbes 45), Morris (Cartwright 45), M Hughes, Morris, Matt (Proctor 67), Allen, Evans (Haughton (67).
