Alexander Proud Of Preston Response

Alexander Proud Of Preston Response

Manager Graham Alexander was a delighted man at full time in the game against Preston North End, as we helped ourselves to a justified point in the game, ended the strongest and could well have taken more from it with a better quality final ball, or the award of two contentious penalty shouts.

That said the quality of David Ball's lob to get a point was phenomenal.

Speaking to the Official Site having battled back from going a goal down inside of the opening ten minutes, Alexander couldn't help but be pleased with our response in the second half.

'I thought both subs that came on both contributed to the upturn in the performance. The players pushed themselves a little bit more and pressed Preston. I think we showed them a little bit too much respect in the first half. I wasn`t happy with the display, and when you`re 1-0 down you don`t want to concede any more.'

Alexander went on to say of his frustration about the first period that we just didn't play as he knows we can, we didn't compete properly for the first or second balls but that all changed after the half time restart.

'Second half we did that and nullified their threats up front. They responded magnificently which was great to see because I saw players playing with more determination and a smile on their face. When the stoppage in play happened we were just concerned that it might have taken the momentum away from us when we`d began to build. The players carried on where they left off before the break though and really took the game to Preston. On another day we could have got the winner.'

Speaking about the potential winner, the gaffer knew we had the opportunities and good opportunities at that, to have got our noses in front and of course he referenced the couple of penalty shouts that we had in the game...but having waited so long to face clubs like Preston on home soil - you have to be happy with the point, take the positives and take the positive that is the first half no show because it means we could've done better had we been at it for all 90 minutes and not just 45.

'We had some good opportunities, and even thought we could have had a couple of penalties today. If we get those penalties then it gets us back into the game, but we had to rely on a superb goal from David Ball to have a share of the spoils.'
