Cod Army Preview: Newport 0 Fleetwood 0
4/3/14 - 7:45pm
Fleetwood's winless run, and more worryingly goal drought, continued at Newport on Tuesday night in the 0-0 draw at Rodney Parade
Positively though we kept the gap between Newport and ourselves though by avoiding defeat but the real winner on the night was the Rodney Parade pitch, which contributed to several misses from both sides that otherwise you wouldn't have thought would have been the case.
Lee Minshull, Tom Naylor and Rene Howe all had good early chances for Newport, which all came from corners, but Chris Maxwell wasn't called into action on any of these occasions with the Cod Army goalkeeper not tested by any effort.
Those chances that Newport had were good but we had the best of the first half came our way when Jamille Matt crossed to Antoni Sarcevic, who with just the goalkeeper to beat blew the opportunity as he put the effort wide.
Half Time: Newport 0 Fleetwood 0
The pitch continued to cause problems in the second half with it difficult for either side to play much football.
If we though that Sarcevic had missed the games best chance we were wrong.
Newport must have though Chris Zebroski was a dead certainty to put them ahead but with the pitch once again playing a part a bobble in the pitch deceived him and his effort ended up going wide of Maxwell's goal.
Full Time: Newport 0 Fleetwood 0
We've kept the gap we had on our opponents and are now six points ahead of Plymouth Argyle, who are the side in form at the moment and threatening to break into the top seven, but they do have a game in hand.
Newport have games in hand too but with these at Rodney Parade they'll do well to convert too many of these into wins if Tuesday is anything to go by.
A top three place is now further away from us but we've consolidated our League 2 play off place, I think, with this point.
