Cod Army Report: Cheltenham 1 Fleetwood 2

Cheltenham

Fleetwood

Whaddon Road

18/4/14 - 3:00pm

Attendance: 2,890

Referee:

It was definitely a Good Friday for Fleetwood with a fightback win at Cheltenham seeing us move to within touching distance of automatic League 2 promotion.

At a goal down it wasn't looking so good but two second half goals saw us through to a 2-1 win at Whaddon Road.

There wasn't much good about Friday's first half really, particularly for the Cod Army with Jamie Cureton's goal that put the home side ahead the only real moment of note from the first half.

Cheltenham would have been happier with the half, goal or not with Matt Richards and Harry Williams both denied by Chris Maxwell saves with Cureton scoring a goal he's been famous for over his long career.

Half Time: Cheltenham 1 Fleetwood 0

It was clear that Graham Alexander had words at half time.

The Cod Army came out much improved after the break and it took no less than 10 minutes for us to draw level. Richards brought down Iain Hume in the box with a penalty awarded. Antonio Sarcevic stepped up and drew us level.

10 minutes later we were ahead.

Josh Morris netted his first goal for us since joining on loan from Blackburn when he was in the right place to fire in what proved to be the winner.

Maxwell kept out a Sido Jombati freekick as well as a Steve Elliott header as Cheltenham pushed for an equaliser.

This would have come from Cureton if his effort wasn't cleared off the line by Jon Parkin more noted for his attacking than defending but he saved a goal.

Full Time: Cheltenham 1 Fleetwood 2

It's possible that we could find ourselves in the top three on Easter Monday if we win again?

Chesterfield could only manage a draw, moving up to second and three points ahead of us but it's now Rochdale in our sights, a heavy home defeat leaves them just two points ahead of us now.
