Cod Army Report: Fleetwood 1 Wycombe 0

Fleetwood
1 - 0
Wycombe

Highbury

21/4/14 - 3:00pm

Attendance: 2,711

Referee:

Fleetwood could have made it harder when we went down to 10 men after just 13 minutes but we still had enough to see off relegation threatened Wycombe Wanderers as we won 1-0 at Highbury on Monday.

We were in control until Alan Goodall kicked out at Nick Arnold, already on the ground, to collect a straight red.

This sending off did little to inspire Wycombe and we continued to dominate the half.

Matty Blair's effort was the closest the Cod Army came to breaking through though. He found his way through the Wycombe defence but his effort lacked composure as he blasted his effort over.

Half Time: Fleetwood 0 Wycombe 0

Inside the opening minute of the second half we another chance but Wycombe goalkeeper Matt Ingram did well to keep out David Bell's venomous effort.

A second goal in as many games from Josh Morris put us ahead in the end though.

Morris opened his Fleetwood account on Friday and followed this up with another on Monday as the Blackburn loanee powered up into the lead with a 20 yard effort into the bottom at the end of a good move.

Wycombe knew then that they had no option but to have a go.

The best they could offer was a Junior Morias curler that Chris Maxwell did well to save with the same player putting an effort just wide with just seconds of the game remaining.

Full Time: Fleetwood 1 Wycombe 0

Victory keeps our automatic promotion hopes very much intact.

Only three points separate us from both Chesterfield, in second, and Rochdale, in third, with us of course playing Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium on the final day of the season. If it comes down to goal difference though we'll not be able to compete with the Spireites.
