Cod Army Report: Peterborough United 1 Fleetwood 0
27/9/14 - 3:00pm
Defensively, as we usually are, we were a lot more solid on Saturday but a failure to score again as we've often have recently proved the difference.
Not taking our chances, which we had in the first half, cost us defeat at London Road with Peterborough beating The Cod Army 1-0 with a first half injury time strike.
What a chance we had to take the lead when Gareth Evans or Steven Dobbie could have taken a chance, but with neither wanting it the chance passed us by.
One that we did want later was a chance for John Morris, he had beaten Peterborough goalkeeper Ben Alnwick but Michael Smith covered and cleared off the line to prevent us from making the breakthrough.
Alnwick played his part in Peterborough's injury time goal too when a defensive mistake allowed the ball to go through to Conor Washington who made no mistake.
Half Time: Peterborough 1 Fleetwood 0
The closest we came to equalising in the second half was another Morris effort, but again he couldn't beat Alnwick.
He had, of course, beaten Alnwick in the first half with the effort cleared but this time the goalkeeper tipped a freekick from the midfielder wide.
When Stephen Crainey fouled Marcus Maddison in the final 10 minutes, earning a second yellow card that meant he went off, our chances of drawing level virtually ended.
Full Time: Peterborough 1 Fleetwood 0
It could be argued that we deserved a point, but luck didn't go our way.
On the other hand though if we can't take the really presentable chances that come our way either we've only got ourselves to blame for that.
