Cod Army Report: Colchester 2 Fleetwood 1
Weston Homes Community Stadium
11/10/14 - 3:00pm
Fleetwood weren't able to built on the win in our last League 1 game, and we also allowed a lead to slip at the Weston Homes Community Stadium again Colchester United on Saturday as the home side came from a goal down to win 2-1.
David Fox threatened for Colchester before Liam McAlinden picked up Steven Schumacher's pass to keep his nerve and finish well, with Sam Walker coming out to meet him, to give The Cod Army the lead.
McAlinden had a penalty claim turned down, with it felt he was challenged unfairly by Sean Clohessy, as a chance of a cushion was denied us.
Colchester drew level just before half time when Gavin Massey was able to beat Chris Maxwell at his near post, Maxwell will probably be disappointed as no goalkeeper wants to be beaten at his near post.
Half Time: Colchester 1 Fleetwood 1
Walker did better himself at his near post as the Colchester goalkeeper kept out Antoni Sarcevic shortly after the break to keep it level and Gareth Evans also missed a chance when he side footed wide when well placed.
That save, and missed effort, proved our downfall with Massey again on target when he fired past Maxwell again with just under 15 minutes left to play.
Still we had a late chance to claim a point, which we probably deserved, when Walker again saved well for Colchester as he kept out Schumacher's freekick.
Full Time: Colchester 2 Fleetwood 1
Missed chances, some good saves though in fairness too, once again have cost us something and that's disappointing. A point away wouldn't have been a bad point but losing a lead and then being beaten even more so.
Unfortunately I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to add these report, or even write on this website, so I'm looking for something to fill in if interested? If this appeals to you email on the link below.
