Cod Army Report: Cambridge United 1 Fleetwood 0
The Abbey Stadium
8/11/14 - 3:00pm
An FA Cup defeat at Cambridge United on Saturday was a disappointment for Fleetwood but a First Round exit, after a 1-0 defeat, shouldn't be too much of a surprise given our poor away form.
The League 2 side, we've got to remember that we were at that level last season but they were also playing Non League this time last year, inflicted a seventh straight away defeat upon us in all competitions when they beat us at the Abbey Stadium.
A game that wasn't doing anything didn't have much to write home about in the opening half, or the opening hour or more really!
Half Time: Cambridge 0 Fleetwood 0
The game suddenly awoke with around 20 minutes to go.
Jamie Proctor, who had come on about 10 minutes previously, was sent off after being on for only 11! Raising his hand to Richard Tait, in a scuffle, earned him a straight red card and saw us end the game with 10 men.
Cambridge made the most of this when a counter attack allowed Robbie Simpson to feed Kwesi Appiah and he beat Chris Maxwell, who spent time on loan with Cambridge last season.
A replay was almost forced late in the game when Jeff Hughes crossed for Tom Hitchcock, the MK Dons loanee met this with a powerful header but goalkeeper Chris Dunn pulled off a good save to knock us out.
Full Time: Cambridge 1 Fleetwood 0
This is an upset, and a disappointment, but isn't too much of a surprise in so many ways with our dreadful away from, which we need to get sorted out and quickly.
For a first time in four years we'll not be in Monday's draw for the Second Round with our focus now fully on our League 1 campaign with us now out of all the domestic Cup competitions.
